DOCUMENT ID: 1231-02 SYNOPSIS: Mounting the Solaris CD-ROM OS RELEASE: 2.x PRODUCT: Solaris x86, vold KEYWORDS: vold Solaris install CD SYMPTOMS: Cannot mount the Solaris install CD or AnswerBook CD. DESCRIPTION: Vold does not install the Solaris installation CD. It may show the directories to mount but will not actually mount the CDs. SOLUTION: The problem is due to the /etc/vold.conf file states that the mount slice for the CD is /dev/dsk/c*s2. The Solaris CD has to be mounted with /dev/dsk/c*p0. There are two workarounds: 1. Manual Mounting. a) Kill vold using the /etc/rc2.d/S??volmgmt stop b) Manually mount the cdrom with the command mount -o ro -F hsfs /dev/dsk/c0t5d0p0 /cdrom. 2. Editing the /etc/vold.conf a) Edit vold.conf to show the c*p0 instead of the c*s2. DATE APPROVED: 11/25/94
