SYNOPSIS: How to change your hostname on Solaris X86

OS RELEASE:

PRODUCT: Solaris x86

KEYWORDS: hostname install nodename

DESCRIPTION:

During the installation of Solaris X86, the procedure asks you for the
hostname for your workstation. This will be the name you use for all
your network operations and it will also be your default system prompt.

Question:

How do you change the hostname on Solaris X86 after installation?

SOLUTION:

There are several files you can manually modify to change your hostname.

1. /etc/nodename

2. /etc/hostname.smc0 (smc0 refers to the ethernet card.
    Use the appropriate driver name)

3. /etc/inet/hosts which is symbolically linked to
    /etc/hosts

4. /etc/net/ticlts/hosts

5. /etc/net/ticots/hosts

6. /etc/net/ticotsord/hosts

Just edit these files and replace your old hostname with your new
hostname. Reboot.
