DESCRIPTION:

How to change the name of the NIS server after install

SOLUTION:

When installing Solaris and choosing NIS as the name service the system
will request the name of the NIS server in your Domain. If you
misspelled the name or you inadvertently gave a wrong name then here is
a simple way of rectifying the problem.

Boot up the system. It may take a long time to bootup as it would
generate a lot of errors on the search for the name server.

Edit the file /var/yp/binding//ypservers and change the
name of the server. If you want to use the broadcast method, just
remove the file /var/yp/binding//ypservers. The broadcast
method will work only on UDP and is insecure, as the first system on the
net who replies to the ypbinding request will be your server.
