DOCUMENT ID: 1335-02 SYNOPSIS: NFS exported file systems won't mount OS RELEASE: 2.x PRODUCT: Solaris KEYWORDS: mount NFS permissions SYMPTOMS: Exported files systems from older Unix systems won't mount DESCRIPTION: NFS exported file system won't mount. "Snoop" is untilized to trace the protocol transaction messages between the Solaris system and the foreign NFS host. The messages show all the correct information flowing between the machines. A "permission denied" message indicates the mountd is unhappy. The NFS file permissions are wide open and root is not involved so no special permissions are required. SOLUTION: One of the more obscure requirements of NFS is the all host IP addresses must be "known" by the NFS host. This is accomplished by a simple entry defining the host in the /etc/hosts file. Some systems have options to relax mountd known host requirements. Sunsoft IUS has the "-u" option. DATE APPROVED: 05/08/95
