DOCUMENT ID: 1500-02 SYNOPSIS: How to boot a system with a bad /etc/system OS RELEASE: Solaris 2.4 PRODUCT: KEYWORDS: etc system bad boot -as dev null DESCRIPTION: The /etc/system file is bad, so cannot boot the system, what can be done? SOLUTION: Solaris reads the /etc/system file during boot up. The boot would fail to boot if the /etc/system file has an error. If your system refuses to boot, use the b -as command during boot time. Solaris would ask for the system file to use. Specify a saved copy of the /etc/system file or /dev/null. Once in single user change the /etc/system and reboot the system. DATE APPROVED: 09/05/96
