SYNOPSIS: Installing Answerbooks on Solaris 2.1 for x86

OS RELEASE: 2.1

PRODUCT: Solaris x86

KEYWORDS: Answerbook install list books

SYMPTOMS:

Faults in the postinstall scripts for various packages cause the
installation to fail.

DESCRIPTION:

During installation of the Answerbooks, after getting the messages

    ## Installation of part 1 of 1 is complete.
    ## Executing postinstall script.

a message of the following form may be issued:

/var/sadm/pkg//install/postinstall:

/cdrom/SUNWabdvg/reloc/PostScriptDEST/list_of_books: cannot open

Just as the message says, the problem is that the list_of_books file
cannot be opened.

SOLUTION:

1) Enter 'ksh' to start the Korn Shell, which has job control.

2) Enter 'set -o monitor' to start the job control.

3) Start the Answerbook installation.

4) Enter Control-z to halt installation after it has put the
   postinstall file in: /var/sadm/pkg//install.
This can be done at any point in the installation before it
reaches the "Executing postinstall script" message.

5) Edit the file: /var/sadm/pkg//install/postinstal
to change the BOOKINFO_TEMPLATE line by adding \$ before
   PostScriptDEST so that it reads:

BOOKINFO_TEMPLATE=${Distrib}/${PKG}/reloc/\$PostScriptDEST/list_of_books

6) Enter 'fg' to resume the installation.

This procedure will need to be followed for each package that fails to
install in this manner.

NOTE: A related bug may cause Answerbook operation to fail when
referencing the Answerbook CD-ROM from a less-than full installation.
For this reason, it is recommended that the full, "heavy" installation
be performed.
