DOCUMENT ID: 1127-02 SYNOPSIS: Restoration of the Solaris X86 master boot program OS RELEASE: PRODUCT: Solaris x86 KEYWORDS: master boot program partition DESCRIPTION: Describes the restoration of the partition choice menu displayed during the master boot execution. SOLUTION: Occasionally the fdisk program from an operating system other than Solaris is run on the hard disk. This act of changing any of the "fdisk table "data and writing back will replace the master boot program. Each operating system has a different notion of the master boot program. The Solaris version has the partition selection menu. The restoration of the Solaris master boot program requires several steps. 1. Use an fdisk program to set the Solaris partition active enabling Solaris to boot. 2. Boot the system and Solaris should boot. 3. Run the fdisk program as "root" by entering: fdisk /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0p0 4. Change the active partition to any other partition, then back to the Solaris partition. This action will cause the hard disk to be updated when option 4 (update and exit) is chosen. 5. Choose option 4 from the menu. This will save the changes. The next time the system is booted the partition boot menu will be displayed. DATE APPROVED: 10/10/95
