DOCUMENT ID: 1150-02 SYNOPSIS: Tips on installing a Toshiba notebook with a docking station OS RELEASE: 2.1 PRODUCT: Solaris x86 KEYWORDS: Toshiba notebook docking station SYMPTOMS: Solaris 2.1 for X86 installation hangs at various points. DESCRIPTION: Typically, you install X86 on a supported Toshiba Notebook Computer like the T4600C using a DeskStation IV docking bay. Presumably you are using the Adaptec 154x C(F) HBA through a DeskStation IV docking bay. If so, the HBA will not work unless the docking bay has been configured for high speed DMA. The high speed DMA will not work through the docking bay to a T4600 or T4700 unless you change one of the configuration switches. Otherwise, installation will hang at various points. SOLUTION: On older models of the DeskStation IV (PA2700U with 8 DIP switches) switch 7 must be turned off. On newer models of the DeskStation IV (PA2701U with a single configuration switch on the back) the switch must be set to off (to the left). DATE APPROVED: 10/10/95
