SYNOPSIS: CDE Motif license expiration error message

OS RELEASE: 2.x

PRODUCT: Solaris x86

KEYWORDS: CDE Motif license expiration error system date

DESCRIPTION:

As of May 1, 1994, the CDE Motif license expired. This causes the GUI
installation to fail.

SOLUTION:

There are two methods to workaround this problem.

Method 1. Change the system date to do the GUI install.

To change the system date during the install, start the installation
normally and when the error message appears in the console window,
either sysidtool or installtool has bombed out. The # prompt will
appear. Now type in a date previous to May 1, 1994.

Example:

# date 04290001
# sysconfig

This date command sets the time to 12:01am on April 29th and starts the
sysidtool and installtool programs again. If the sysidtool starts, it
may or may not actually ask for the current time. If it does ask for a
current time, use any date before May 1, 1994.

Method 2. Use the CUI install

When booting an Intel machine, continue the installation to the graphics
device selection, and select F4 to exit the configuration at that point.

When booting a Sparc machine from the CD, type 'boot cdrom -w'

When booting a Sparc from a netinstall server, type 'boot new -w'

These steps will cause the system to not start windows during the
install process and the curses based interface will start by default.
